Fit to Fly Covid Test For Travelers Leaving The UK—What Should You Do?

It’s been two years since this pandemic has been turning our world upside down. Some of us are still reluctant to leave the house for things as trivial as a grocery store run, while some of us just want to get their fit to fly COVID test and enjoy life outside of the UK. If you add the half-term break to the mix, you sure get a lot of people wanting to escape for a bit.

We get it. We want our lives back, too. It won’t be the “normal” we were used to pre-pandemic, but that’s the exciting part—we can now create the new normal together.

However, until then, in order to have a safe and worry-free flight, you have to follow some government-issued rules (depending on the country) about COVID-19 testing before leaving the UK (and upon returning, in some cases).

Fit to fly COVID test—What is it and why do you need it?

A fit to fly COVID test is… well, a COVID test, of course, that shows your airline company that you’re eligible to fly according to the government rules. That is, if you test negative to COVID. If you test positive, you won’t be allowed to fly.

There are different situations that can occur, so let’s have a closer look.

Upon leaving the UK

Whether you’re looking at winter retreats or Heaven-like beach locations during this half-term break, you have to know that every country has its own rules. Therefore, you’re responsible for doing your research about the necessity of a fit to fly COVID test, vaccination rules, quarantine etc.

As far as the UK is concerned, here what you should know:

  • If you’re fully vaccinated and at least 14 days have passed since your last dose, thanks to your COVID-19 vaccine proof (The NHS COVID Pass), you should have no worries in leaving the UK and entering a different country (again, this heavily depends on the country you’re traveling to).

  • If you’re NOT vaccinated, your research about the country you’re traveling to is essential. Many countries require a fit to fly COVID test—either pre-departure, day 2, day 8 etc.

Upon returning to the UK

If you’re reading this after 4 A.M. On February 11, we have some good news that the UK Government has released recently.

  • If you’re fully vaccinated, you don’t need any COVID-status proof (i.e. a test) to enter the UK. Additionally, you won’t need to be in quarantine. You will, however, have to fill out a passenger locator form

  • If you’re not fully vaccinated, however, you have to show proof by testing for COVID-19 and complete a passenger locator form. Two days before you leave the current country, you have to take a PCR Test. If you test negative, you’re fit to fly to the UK, but not before you book a PCR Test in the UK to be delivered to your address in the UK when you arrive there. So, you have to book your test in advance. If all your PCR Tests are negative you won’t need to be in quarantine.

We’re glad that the February 11 regulations have been put into place just in time for the half-term break. However, for those returning to the UK and requiring a PCR test, it can be quite a costly endeavor.

That’s why we made sure that our services are affordable and fast. Remember you have to book your PCR test in advance in the UK? What do you do if it takes days to get it done? Not nice.
